A Kid at Heart...

We have another birthday in the family this weekend and it's Uncle David's! Can you imagine how much fun that will be celebrating his birthday! He and Aunt Tuttie are two kids in a candy store or better yet an ice cream parlor. Now Tuttie, you better be nice to Uncle David and share the chocolate or ice cream I know you have hidden somewhere in your house...LOL. He's the birthday boy. Well, I can remember when Uncle David came for a visit to Ft. Walton Beach during those younger adolescent years of mine. I was in 5th grade. He and Aunt Tuttie drove Grandpa over in his "BIG" Winnebago, that was a "condominium" in itself. I know you guys can't forget how big that was. Good grief, it was a mini van on "steroids". Anyways, I was excited to see Grandpa, but just as excited to see Aunt Tuttie & Uncle David. I mean what kid wouldn't be when you knew when they came to visit, you would get to be "one of the kids" to hang out with them at the candy store. I remember Uncle David and I played tennis that week, just about everyday at the junior high school behind mom & dad's house. We would cut through the big hole in the fence next door with our rackets & tennis balls. Then hike across the baseball field to get to the courts. Once we were there, poor Uncle David, he had to put up with my "awful serves" and "weak returns". I think he did more chasing then playing. I knew for sure after having him run all over the tennis court that day, when asked again to go, he would politely let me know he was busy. But ya know what, he didn't. He went back the next day, the day after that, & the day after that. All the way to the day they left. It didn't matter to him about how good I was at playing tennis. What I noticed that matter was the time he was spending with me since I didn't get to see him that often. I still remember that week like it was yesterday. I got to be that kid to hang out with him in the candy store.

Attentive...Loving...Caring...A big kid at heart...
that's Uncle David!
A big kid then and still that big kid now.

Thinking of you on this day, wishing you a very Happy Birthday!

Best wishes for a "feasty and delicious" birthday. I hear you have a special treat to the Blue Willow if the weather does not play into the game. Know you will enjoy it when the time comes whether it is tomorrow or on a later date. Happy Day!!! Barbara and Allen

Melissa, I'm glad you have those special memories of that trip. It was quite special and memorable for myself and Aunt Tuttie. It's kinda weird, I was thinking about our tennis 'tournament' just this week.
It's great to here about the next big adventure for your family. I know you and Mark are excited. What a great opportunity.

Best wishes and good luck,

Uncle David

Gee David, you and Melissa have been keeping your tennis skills a secret all these years. I could've used your talents earlier, when I was playing tennis...David, so Happy you are celebrating your birthday at the Blue Willow, I've heard some wonderful memories are made there. I recall a few special times with you and Aunt Tutie. On one of my Georgia visits you prepared this awsome homemade, from scratch, lemon meringue pie. Another special time with yall, was when yall took me clam digging in the Chesapeake Bay. Wow that was a very interesting experience and a true education on the preparation and steaming of them on your grill. Later we ate steamed clams and fried clam cakes on your beautiful screened-in porch, in Seaford Delaware. I felt like I was living a dream from a picture in the Southern Living Magazine..the way your porch was set up., the good food and the great company.....enjoy your day and the wonderful memories you have made with all of us.
